About the course

What this course is about

You are the person who answers the hard questions. Is this tool lawful? Who signs it off? What happens the morning a parent arrives with a fake image of their child? Your staff already use AI assistants — with or without a policy. The EU AI Act’s AI-literacy duty has applied to organisations using AI since February 2025, and obligations for high-risk uses in education follow from December 2027.

This course is about governance, not classroom practice. You do not need to become a prompt expert — a colleague can take Course 01 for that. Here you read your digital maturity, write an AI policy, plan defensible procurement, map staff competence and leave with a 12-month roadmap. Cyberno is a Greek non-profit working on digital safety and preventing online harm to young people, and the safeguarding session is where that work sits.

What makes it different: it is the only course in our series for leaders — policy, data protection, procurement, staff development and an organisation-wide roadmap.

Who is it for

Principals, deputy heads, heads of department, board members, managers, Erasmus+ coordinators, ICT and digital leads, data-protection contacts and education-authority advisers.

Prerequisite: a leadership or management role. No technical background or AI experience is needed. Bring a laptop, your SELFIE report if you have one, and any policies you want to rework.

Learning outcomes

What you will learn

By the end of the course you will be able to:

1

Interpret your digital-maturity evidence (for example SELFIE) and agree three written priorities.

2

Decide which administrative tasks AI may support and which must stay with a person.

3

Classify your tools against the EU AI Act's risk categories and produce a procurement checklist.

4

Draft an organisation-wide AI policy for staff, learners and parents, including staff AI-literacy measures.

5

Write an incident-response protocol for cyberbullying, image-based abuse and deepfakes.

6

Present a 12-month Digital & AI Roadmap with milestones, indicators and a staff-development plan.

Programme

Your five days

Day 1

Starting point

  • Welcome, needs check and your digital-maturity results
  • AI briefing for leaders: what you must know — not how to prompt
  • AI for administration, and what must never be automated
Day 2

Leading safely and lawfully

  • Your organisation as an AI deployer: data-protection impact assessments, your DPO, procurement due diligence
  • Cyber-security essentials: phishing, ransomware, backups
  • Drafting your AI policy
Day 3

People, not tools

  • Mapping staff digital competence and planning professional development
  • Workload, wellbeing and distributed leadership
  • Afternoon: study visit
Day 4

Safeguarding and European cooperation

  • Safeguarding learners online: the first hour after a report, your protocol, working with parents
  • Erasmus+ accreditation, eTwinning and impact indicators you can actually collect
Day 5

Your roadmap

  • 12-month roadmap tested in peer consultancy groups; Cascade Pack
  • Presentations, evaluation and certificates

Beyond the classroom

  • Welcome dinner on Monday evening at a local taverna — included in the fee.
  • Study visit on Wednesday afternoon to a leadership team or education directorate in Athens, with a short debrief. Included in the fee; not counted in the 15 contact hours.

How we teach

  • You work on your own organisation's documents, so what you draft is usable the week you return.
  • Your policy is read by leaders from other countries, and theirs by you; cases come from real European institutions.
  • An action plan that becomes Friday's roadmap, plus a Cascade Pack: a ready-made 45-minute briefing for staff.

Certificate and follow-up

  • Certificate of attendance listing the dates, the 15 contact hours and the learning outcomes.
  • Learning outcomes ready to paste into your Mobility Agreement and Europass Mobility document.
  • Online follow-up session (60–90 minutes) 6–8 weeks after the course, to compare what has moved.
