Assessment in the Age of AI
Redesign assessment for the age of AI: design over detection.
Dates 2026-27

About the course
What this course is about
Since generative AI arrived in learners’ pockets, one question keeps coming back: can we still trust the essay, the project, the homework? Many institutions answered by buying an AI detector. That answer does not hold. Detectors are unreliable, and their false positives fall hardest on people writing in a second language. A wrong accusation costs a learner far more than a wrongly awarded mark.
This course takes the other route: design over detection. You work on the assessments you will actually set next term — auditing them for AI vulnerability, agreeing a scale that tells learners when AI is allowed, and rebuilding tasks so that the evidence of learning stays visible. AI then helps you draft rubrics and feedback that you check, and analytics help you spot the misconception behind a wrong answer. Cyberno works on digital safety, so we treat assessment data as data that can hurt.
What makes it different: it is the only course in our series about assessment — tasks, rubrics and feedback redesigned so AI strengthens the evidence of learning instead of undermining it.
Who is it for
Teachers and lecturers who set assessments, heads of department, programme leaders, and exam and quality-assurance staff. You need basic experience with an AI assistant; Course 01 is recommended but not required, and Monday includes a short refresher. Bring a laptop and two or three of your own assessments.
Learning outcomes
What you will learn
By the end of the course you will be able to:
Audit your own assessments for AI vulnerability and validity, and set a four-level AI-use scale.
Redesign one assessment so it shows the process of learning — drafts with version history, an oral defence or a local task.
Produce a rubric and AI-drafted feedback that you have checked, with a learner self-assessment sheet.
Build a small item bank checked for accuracy, difficulty and bias, and use quiz analytics to find misconceptions.
Explain how GDPR and the EU AI Act apply to assessment data.
Adapt an e-assessment for learners who need accommodations and for multilingual learners.
